About the film
These are unsettling times.
We can no longer call school shootings 'unimaginable' because they are happening with alarming frequency. And as the father of a child now attending school full-time, I was forced with facing a horrifying new reality - every day I drop my child off at school might be the last time I ever see her.
That is unacceptable.
As a parent and a filmmaker, I felt a tremendous responsibility to use this powerful medium to create something that would contribute to the conversation - be a catalyst for change.
So I began to ask myself - Are guns the problem? Are we the problem? Is there a mental health crisis somewhere at the root of all of this? Countless hours of research, discussion, and self reflection led me to believe that there is probably some truth to all of these playing a part in this heinous epidemic. Still, somewhere between the politically expedient "Let's Take the Guns Away" tirades and the "Guns Don't Kill People; People Kill People" broadsides, lies an ugly truth: Our youth is at risk, yet "we" seem to be more concerned with furthering our own individual agendas than actually coming together to find a solution.
This has to stop.
We need real conversations. Uncomfortable conversations.
We need to hear viewpoints we disagree with and still collectively find a way to put an end to this madness.
I understand no amount of talking alone will solve this, but I so desperately want to believe we will find a way. That we'll be able to arrive at a solution that generally feels like the "right thing" to do.
We have to.
For the sake of my children's lives. Your children's lives.
And the lives of future generations, who no longer wonder if, but when the next shooting will take place.
This film is not about making political statements or adhering to agendas - It’s not propaganda - It’s a plea to save lives, inspire, take a deeper look at the human condition, and remind us all what's truly at stake.
